  • The support for VoWiFi has been out on both Airtel and Jio for a few months now, and most phone makers are rushing to bring to extend it to most of their popular models. Xiaomi and Samsung have actively rolled out support for VoWiFi on most of their mass-market models but surprisingly, OnePlus has been trailing with bringing the support for VoWiFi. The phones support Airtel VoWiFi but when it comes to Jio, none of their phones, not even the latest OnePlus 7T series, support the feature. However, it seems that the wait is finally over.
OnePlus is rolling out a new software update for its OnePlus 7 series phones that does bring support for VoWiFi to Jio users. The latest software patch, titled Oxygen OS 10.3.1, brings support for VoWiFi to these phone for now. Some media reports even state that the OnePlus 7T Pro is also part of this list, getting Jio VoWiFi support. VoWiFi will improve call quality indoors by latching to a nearby Wi-Fi network.
However, VoWiFi is not the only feature coming with the new update. OnePlus is bring the latest security patch to these phones too. The update is only rolling out to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro for now, with some reports also stating the OnePlus 7T Pro. However, the OnePlus 7T is still stuck on the older software patch with the November Security patch. Users may have to wait for a few more days to get this update whereas ones on the older OnePlus models might get some of these features in the coming weeks..

Apple e-stores coming to India in 2020, offline retail stores to follow from 2021

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple is likely to open its e-store in the coming months, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced in the company's annual shareholder meeting
  • The company will also set up its first flagship brick and mortar store next year in 2021.
  • Currently, Apple sells its products through third-party stores and via online retail platforms like Amazon, Flipkart and Croma.

Apple has decided to take a step further to make its presence felt in India. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO on Wednesday in the company’s annual shareholder meeting announced that Apple will open its e-store in India sometime this year, TechCrunch reported. The company will also set up its first flagship brick and mortar store next year in 2021. Currently, Apple sells its products through third-party stores and via online retail platforms like Amazon, Flipkart and Croma.
By going online, Apple can attract a lot of customers and give serious competition to existing brands which dominate the e-commerce arena where gadgets are concerned. It’s not before long that the Cupertino, California-based device and services will sell iPhone, iPads and Apple Mac computers through its e-store.
I am a huge believer in the opportunity in India. It’s a country with the vibrancy and demographics that are just unparalleled, Cook said in a shareholder meeting.
Cook further said that approval from the government was needed to go in ourselves (in the Indian market). I don’t want somebody else running the brand for us. Cook said.
We love our customers in India and we’re eager to serve them online and in-store with the same experience and care that Apple customers around the world enjoy. The Apple CEO had said in August. He, however, did not give a launch date and said it would be announced soon.
There were talks about Apple’s brick and mortar store opening in India by Q3 2020. According to a report by Bloomberg, India eased its FDI norms that forced companies like Apple to source 30 per cent of their production locally. For years, iPhone makers have been trying to work their way against these rules to include exports as part of the requirement. Apple’s first company-owned brick and mortar store is likely to open in Mumbai, according to reports.
Apple's decision to go up front with its own experiential stores comes at a time when rival brands are focusing on offline experience stores to assert the brand presence. OnePlus has been working on its flagship offline stores in select cities to reach out to a wider set of customers, which will operate alongside its existing retail stores. Brands like Xiaomi, Realme and Oppo are also jumping in on the bandwagon with a lot of premium offline outlets. Samsung currently rules the offline space.
Apple’s production and availability has been suffering a bit, owing to the Coronavirus endemic in China. Earlier, the company had made an announcement saying that they would not be able to meet their targets for the March quarter, owing to the virus.
With Apple’s executives and workers not being able to return to their workplaces in China, the company has been experiencing delays.

LG V60 ThinQ 5G with Snapdragon 865 SoC, dual screens launched

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The LG V60 ThinQ 5G has finally been launched.
  2. Its price has not been revealed yet.
  3. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 865 SoC.

LG V60 ThinQ 5G has finally been launched after one too many leaks and renders. The smartphone borrows the design from its predecessor the V50 ThinQ and blends it with the LG G8X ThinQ so as to mimic the foldables we have in the market. Essentially, the V60 ThinQ 5G is a single-screen smartphone with some top-notch specifications - which are on par with rival flagships - but what makes it interesting is the second screen that can be attached to it via a case. You get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor under the hood, in addition to a notched OLED display and a Google Assistant button. The smartphone will be made available in the US, Canada, Europe, and some Asian markets next month. Pricing will be announced at the same time.
Much like its predecessor, the LG V60 ThinQ is the company's non-attempt to play safe - the design is similar. The LG V60 ThinQ 5G has a blend of metal and glass with chamfered edges. It comes in Classy Black and Classy White colours. The smartphone comes with a 6.8-inch FHD+ pOLED waterdrop-notch display, contrary to the QHD+ display on the V50 ThinQ. It also does not compete with its rivals that have higher refresh rates on the display - LG V60 ThinQ has a 60Hz display - but it has HDR10+ support. The aspect ratio has, however, been changed to 20.5:9. LG V50 ThinQ also has an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The LG V60 ThinQ 5G is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. You can expand the storage via microSD card by up to 2TB. The smartphone supports 5G networks, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem. It also has the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, which ensures fast charging on the 5000mAh battery under the hood. There is wireless charging available as well. The smartphone runs Android 10 with the company's skin on top and has features such as 3D Sound Engine, LG Pay, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DC, and four-channel microphones.
